Learn how you can actively participate in food rescue, food sharing, and reducing food waste in Kenya as an individual. foodsharing Kenya connects people, communities, and volunteers to redistribute surplus food and fight hunger sustainably.
Foodsharing Kenya invites individuals from all walks of life to take part in building a more sustainable and responsible food system. Across the country, large amounts of perfectly edible food are wasted every day, while many communities continue to face food insecurity. By participating in food rescue and food sharing, you become part of a growing movement that transforms surplus into impact, ensuring that food reaches people instead of landfills.
Foodsharing begins with simple choices. Many people throw away food because they are unsure whether it is still safe to eat. Learning proper food handling, storage, and hygiene can help you reduce waste in your own home while building awareness about responsible consumption. You can find helpful guidance and learning materials through our knowledge resources.
You can also share surplus food from your home. If you have food that you cannot use, consider sharing it with others in your community or through foodsharing activities. Always ensure that shared food meets safety and hygiene standards.
Sharing food and participating as an individual becomes easier when you create an account on the foodsharing platform (insert foodsharing.de signup link). Registration is free and simple. Once registered, you become part of the foodsharing network and can connect with others, share available food, or participate in redistribution activities. You can also follow updates from your local area and stay informed about opportunities to get involved.
If you would like to take a more active role in reducing food waste in Kenya, you can complete the training to become a Food Saver.
As a Food Saver, you will have the opportunity to participate in food rescue pickups from partner businesses. These may include fresh produce, baked goods, prepared meals, or other surplus food that is still perfectly safe to eat but would otherwise go to waste. Participation is flexible, and you can contribute based on your availability without long-term commitments.
To get started, you will go through a short onboarding process that introduces you to foodsharing principles, guidelines, and responsibilities. This includes completing a quiz and understanding the values that guide foodsharing activities.
After completing the initial steps, you will participate in introductory pickups where experienced members guide you through real food rescue activities. These sessions help you understand how pickups are conducted, how to interact with partner businesses, and how to handle food safely.
Once you complete your onboarding and your profile is verified, you will be ready to actively participate in food rescue efforts within your local area. At this stage, you can begin contributing independently and supporting ongoing activities.
Foodsharing is driven by the people who participate in it. Beyond food rescue, there are many ways to get involved and contribute to the growth of the movement in Kenya.
You can support onboarding of new members, help coordinate local activities, contribute to communication and awareness efforts, or assist in expanding partnerships. Whether you are interested in operations, outreach, or community engagement, there is always an opportunity to contribute.
As you grow within the foodsharing network, you may also find opportunities to contribute beyond your immediate community. This could include supporting platform development, contributing ideas to improve food rescue systems, or helping expand foodsharing to new regions.
Foodsharing Kenya is part of a broader movement working to reduce food waste and promote sustainable food systems. Your involvement can extend beyond local activities and contribute to a larger impact.
Foodsharing is what we make it together. Every action, whether small or large, contributes to reducing food waste and supporting communities.
We look forward to having you as part of foodsharing Kenya.
